Aretha Franklin comes to Beyonce’s defense in inuagural lip-synching controversy

The Queen of Soul says she ‘cracked up’ at the backlash, adding that she should have thought of doing the same back in 2009.

She may have disappointed her fans, but Beyonce’s pre-recorded inaugural performance still got a little respect from the Queen of Soul.

Beyonce “did a beautiful job with the pre-record,” Motown mega-star Aretha Franklin told ABC News Tuesday..

Clarkson was “magnificent,” Franklin said.

Beyonce, in New Orleans preparing for her Super Bowl halftime show Feb. 3, hasn’t addressed the controversy, and her camp didn’t respond to calls for comment Tuesday.

The news broke after a spokeswoman for the U.S. Marine Band that accompanied Beyonce said that both the singer and the band feigned live performances.

The U.S. Marine Band later tried to backpedal, issuing a second statement refusing to comment on Beyonce’s alleged faux-singing.

Bob Goldstein, owner of the company that ran the audio board used during the inauguration ceremony, said in an interview Wednesday with CNN that it’s up to Beyonce to address the rumors.

“I don't believe it's up to us to have that conversation. I don't think it's a question that I should answer," Goldstein said. "I think it's something that Beyoncé should disclose. I think it's up to her whether she wants to address the conversation," he added.
