Lawrence received the best actress award, but co-star and Australian native Jacki Weaver appeared for her.
“I am going to accept this award on behalf of Jennifer,” Weaver, an Oscar nominee in the supporting actress category, said. “She really wishes she could be here, but she is very ill.”
The comment drew a mixed reaction from the audience, which included “Playbook” director David O. Russell and actor Robert De Niro. But there was an overwhelming gush of “ahh” when Weaver clarified Lawrence has pneumonia.

When Weaver finished, the actress in absentia received a rousing round of applause from the whole room.
Lawrence’s health raises questions about whether she will recover in time to attend the Academy Awards ceremony on Feb 24.
The star is a front-runner in the best actress category.
